What is laser proctology?
Laser proctology is the use of a fine laser fibre to deliver controlled energy to selected tissue during the treatment of certain anorectal conditions.
The technique differs by condition: what is done for a pile is not what is done for a fistula tract or a pilonidal sinus. Which technique applies, and whether laser is used at all, follows from the diagnosis.
Laser is one option alongside conservative management, medication and conventional surgery. Not every patient and not every condition is suitable for it.

Depending on the condition, further examination or investigation may be needed before choosing between conservative management, medication, laser treatment or another procedural or surgical option.
Is laser treatment suitable for everyone?
No. Treatment depends on the diagnosis, the severity of the condition, the anatomy involved and individual patient factors.
Some complex or advanced conditions are better managed with another procedure or a conventional surgical approach. Treatment is selected after clinical assessment, taking into account the diagnosis, available treatment options and individual patient factors.
