What is laparoscopic appendicectomy?

Laparoscopic appendicectomy removes the inflamed appendix through three small incisions. A camera is passed through the navel and two working ports are placed low on the abdomen. The appendix is freed, its base and blood supply are secured, and it is removed in a retrieval bag. The operation usually takes 30 to 45 minutes.

Laparoscopy has a second advantage in this particular operation: it lets the surgeon look.
